I planned to set up my blog during my holiday in Hong Kong early this month as I wanted to pay a tribute to my daddy in time for his birthday. Well, my holiday schedule turned out to be hectic and extremely fun (A note of thanks to my wonderful cousin Fiona and her dear hubby Gary).. and so this tribute is a week late. Sorry daddy! :p
GAME & WATCH
I must have been 10 or 11 years old when a trend spread across my primary school (and probably Singapore as well). It was the time of Game and Watch . Everybody who was anybody in my school had one. And I wanted one too. Badly.
And so, I demanded that my parents buy one for me. I can’t recall the response that they gave but it was only a few weeks later that I finally got one. Being a spoilt and ignorant child then, I must have sulked at the delay. I wanted one. I wanted it now.
The day came and I finally got my Game & Watch. It was the Popeye game. I enjoyed playing the game and showing it off to my friends in school. Think it was the latter that mattered more because soon, I grew tired of it.
But today, 24 years later, the Game & Watch console sits at a place of pride in my bedroom. It is no longer working yet it is so important to me. I discovered, years later, that my daddy actually skipped his lunch for a few weeks in order to buy it for me!
At that time, as a young married couple, finances were tight for my parents and the Game & Watch was a luxury. Yet not wanting to deprive their precious daughter, my daddy made a sacrifice.
And this is just one of the many sacrifices that my parents have made for me (and my sis). Our needs always come first before theirs. I am blessed.
